Roy Gonzales

Roy Gonzales a native Californian was born in Oceanside in 1957. He began playing drums at ten years of age and was inspired by the Boys Club Drum & Bugle Corp. Roy began studying drums in elementary and junior high school groups and played in a variety of local bands inspired by Santana. Roy began playing professionally in 1976 and has developed a unique style that incorporates the traditional drum set with Latin percussion instruments like conga drum, bongas, timbales, shakers, cow bells, tambourine, cymbals, castanets and the cajon (the box). In recent years you may have heard him with performers and groups such as Peter Sprague, Jaime Valle, Hank Easton, Holly Hoffman, Hemisphere and recently The Peter Pupping Quartet.

Roy is a favorite in San Diego and is known for his smile and exceptional world beat styles.
